I just came across this and was immediately in love. It’s beautiful, and ok- I’m probably biased. It is my favorite saying and it happens to include my favorite Astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson. Ironically it also has snippets from ‘the power of 10′ too! Enjoy!
every time I’ve seen this on TV I’ve been transfixed. Whitmans words (and voice) overlaying those b + w Ryan McGinley-esqe vignettes, the crackle of a wax recording anchoring the entire thing. America resurrecting itself? Somehow even the fact that it ends with the hand drawn Levis logo doesn’t upset me. America, it seems to say, that upstart: Pulling itself up by (buy) it’s bootstraps.
There are and have been and will be an infinite number of things on earth. Individuals all different, all wanting different things, all knowing different things, all looking different.
Everything that has been on earth has been different from any other thing. That is what I love: the differentness, the uniqueness of all things and the importance of life… I see something that seems wonderful; I see the divineness in ordinary things.
Apparently events just like this one happened in places all over the world last night: London, Vienna, New York, San Francisco, and who knows where else.. No matter what he might have done in his private life one thing is very clear:
Business cards say a lot about our lives. They say hello when we’re not there, they introduce us and tell the world where we spend at least 40 hours a week. Usually not much else is there though.
But what if they said more?? What if they were actually positive personal stories of change? Cards of Change wondered the same thing so they put together a site for us all to share our changes in 2.5 x 3 inches or less.
There’s more talent out on the streets than ever before. Brilliant people looking to reshape their country, build their career and perhaps even grow your business.
Cardsofchange is a place where the glass is always half-full. A destination where all the bad news of the day takes a back seat to stories of individual success.
Our mission is to collect as many business cards and stories of positive change of people who have recently been laid off and connect them with new opportunities from potential employers, business partners and people who make the effort to look on the bright side of life.
I love these little extra connections these cards bring to light. And I love the fact that someone put together a site like this. Go, read and alter your world!! Then take your business card and add it to the mix. Share your dream!
The potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed, a
new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be
released and channeled toward some great good.
Once again, my friend Jill came through with another good find. She sent this along a while back and as much as I loved the video I just hadn’t gotten around to posting it. Yesterday though, I was listening to an NPR podcast when a story about this very project popped up and I couldn’t help but be inspired once again.
Producer Mark Johnson heard a musician named Rodger Rigley playing ‘Stand by me’ on the streets of Santa Monica CA one afternoon. He was so inspired by the mans voice and the the song that he asked if he could come back with a camera and some recording equipment to capture him playing. Johnson took this first recording and morphed it into a collection of street musicians from all over the world playing the same song together. All connected though a single song. It’s a beautiful thing.
“With optimism, you look upon the sunny side of things. People say, ‘Studs, you’re an optimist.’ I never said I was an optimist. I have hope because what’s the alternative to hope? Despair? If you have despair, you might as well put your head in the oven.”
We need a renaissance of wonder. We need to renew, in our hearts and
in our souls, the deathless dream, the eternal poetry, the perennial
sense that life is miracle and magic.
The was originally posted a few months ago.. but I thought it might be nice for it to have a repeat performance!
Happy Pills is a CANDY SHOP in Barcelona. I’m hoping they franchise and take over the world!
Tucked literally between two buildings on Avinguda del Portal de l’Angel, the Happy Pills shop would be fairly easy to miss. That is, if it weren’t for the crowd of tourists and gawkers outside the space. I had to wait more than a few minutes to get a clear shot of the facade.
One inside, you’re met by a wall of various gummie candies. You pick what size “prescription” you want, then you fill the bottle up to your liking. After that, they seal the bottle with a tamper-proof cap and let you choose which label best suits your mood, in either Spanish or English…..via Mocoloco
Katie Sokoler is a freelance photographer from Greenpoint, Brooklyn NY. For the past few weeks she’s been tracing silly shadows onto big rolls of Black paper and cutting them out. She attaches these charming poses to walls and then waits for some unsuspecting person to walk by and match the shadow lines and Viola! A perfectly silly shadow! I just love these..
Talk about bringing a smile to the day!

“We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”
